Review: [Good Smile Company] Hatsune Miku -World is Mine Natural Frame version-

Figure Information
Manufacturer: Good Smile Company
Origin Series: Vocaloid
Scale: 1/8
Height: Approximately 22cm tall (with stand)
Approximately 18cm tall

Original Price: 8,800 Yen

Figure Box:

I have to say that for me, WiM's box is definitely one of, if not, the best Miku boxes I've ever encountered, it's a really creative box that this frame within a frame feel and the roses(?) that surround it is just that much eye appealing and it blends pretty well with the black on the side. ^^ And how you open the box is just somewhat awesome since it's pretty neat XD

Figure Details:

The face of WiM is what I would like to say as an excellent 3Dfication of her original artwork, it's definitely spot on work and along with her outfit, it's a pretty good mold over all. Though having a good mold doesn't really mean that she's excellent overall. For one, she really have rough details such as with her ribbon and frankly speaking, her clothes could've had livelier detail. Her hair is just one lump of plastic but from a far view, it looks very neat which is somewhat a strong point since from a display cab you'll most of the time see her from a distance. On a good point, her socks(?) still remains to be as glossy as how GSC had done it over the previous Mikus; but again, she does have quite noticeable rough works such as a black dot which I can't remove near her bracelet and more tiny dots on her hair but those are fine. What really disappointed me was that her back is completely flat even the hair, while I know she's supposed to be displayed with the frame base, it's also quite given that can be displayed separately and certainly when doing so, a look in the back is disappointing; I know she has a magnet inside but I don't think putting more mass in the back is impossible.

The base is a real winner, it has another magnet inside of it to hold down Miku just fine (or so at least with mine.) And since I got the Natural frame variant, the border is your typical furniture wood and it's absolutely gorgeous!

Almost as if the base had more hard work than Miku herself O: The base is absolutely detailed along with very eye pleasing folds and whatnot, it's just that awesome. The base does have a support stand in the back to feature a complete frame ability or you can also choose to hang it somewhere but that is a little dangerous since if the magnet dies, your Miku falls and thus buhbye 8800 yen.

Appeal:

Again as I've discussed above, the face is gorgeous and the the sly look she's made to look like really does the trick pretty well. And even without the base, she'll look fantastic given the right background.

The way her plastic conversion from the 2D artwork was a pretty good finish as varying angles would capture a good enough shot and also has this aura that she gives off a different mood depending on which angle you captured her.

Of course, using the base would give you a somewhat pre-built background already and as an overall combination, it's great! And if there's a strength that figure has left me, it would be this, the appeal.

Final Thoughts:

Despite having a somewhat disappoint detail work on Miku herself, the overall package ain't really that bad and in fact, up to now, she's still a part of the top Miku scaled figures for me. Was she worth it? Definitely was for me compared to some other Mikus which had more retarded pricing but ended up quite disappointing. Would I recommend World is Mine? Yes, definitely, she's a good piece for me, question is...would you go for the natural frame? or the brown frame?

Good Smile Company's Upcoming 1/8 Hatsune Miku -Love is War (Standard and DX versions)-

And finally the main attraction of the day!

And this comes in two different releases, find out after the jump!

Finally after quite a number of wonder festival events that passed by, this version is getting her PVC production. After seeing the evolution from unpainted prototype to colored and finally in random varying bases that was just weird, GSC finally reveals the release date! In a very impressive paint work in the official shots, this has proven to be another promising Miku since World is Mine (as a Miku variant) was made as it is finally something that is again staying true to the artwork. The first of the release will come with a tower like base and a cord connected to the megaphone Miku is holding.

The standard release as it implies can be ordered regularly in your usual hobby stores for 8,800 yen and will be released on January 2012. Images and info again from GSC's product page.

So yeah, remember that gigantic base with big speakers and such? GSC makes a different release called Love is War DX version which will make you have a DX face as well as it is more expensive and it features the said base; the figure itself however is the same.

The DX version has another catch such that it is a GSC Online Shop Exclusive! Priced at a jawdropping price of 14,000 yen, it definitely is a happy birthday to Miku-chan and a death wish for his fans across the globe (and I'm one of the victims who actually ordered one thanks to some smooth talking by friends XD). Image and info from GSC's page.

Good Smile Company's Upcoming Nendoroid Hatsune Miku -Append-

2nd comes another nendoroid! 8D

This time in her expansion "Append" version!

Accessory-wise, she doesn't have much aside from extra arms and legs, she only has an awakened mode body (with arms and the so-called"wings") But nothing else aside from that. As for faceplates, she comes with another smiling face and the close eyed face which we all have seen from the Append package artwork. The main selling point is her base since it's very unique compared to others and also, having another extra base which will also help recreate the Append package art and this stand is also said to be powered with LED lights!

Nendo Miku Append will be released on January 2012 for a neat price of 3,500 yen! And being the Mikutard you all know, I've already ordered one. XD Images and info from GSC's page.

Good Smile Company's Nendoroid Petite Vocaloid#01 Reissue

First of four Miku day releases from GSC would be a reissue!

And it's none other than the Vocaloid group released back in 2009!

The set will still be a blind box set of 12 featuring 11 distinct characters: Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, Kaito, Meiko, Neru, Haku, Saihate Miku, Sakine Meiko and lastly Hachune-chan as the secret (you know the one who keeps on appearing at photostories and reviews and whatnot) XD The set in factory sealed box is sure to have one duplicate in there.

The set is scheduled to be re-released on October for 6000 yen. Images and Info from GSC's product page.

Happy Birthday, Miku-chan!

And that's time of the year again~

Where a special post is put up for my one and true favorite 2D chara of them all!

It's been officially 4 years since Vocaloid 2 Character Series #01, Hatsune Miku, was introduced to the world. Starting from roughly made songs, with the help of various composers from the great people over at Japan, Miku had climbed a great ladder to the top and now is pretty much famous worldwide. Spawning a ridiculous amount of different costumes per certain PVs, an almost infinite number of songs, an upgraded version called Append and even gaining her own game had just added the costume fest.

Also being the mascot for one my favorite manufacturers, GSC, Miku has become quite a standard face in the figure collecting hobby. And now for her birthday, GSC has also released 4 Miku-related items which I'll be posting in a while. ^^ And as for me, aside from this greeting, I'll also be posting a number of backlog reviews of Miku throughout the remainder of the week particularly 3-5 Mikus which would be the Petits from Vocaloid 01 set, nendo Racing Miku and finally, World is Mine as today, the world is really hers! So, once again, a happy birthday to Miku-chan! :3

And I leave you all with my all time favorite (old school song too XD) Miku song~

Review: [Hasbro] Transformers Dark of the Moon MechTech Weapons System Megatron

Figure Information
Manufacturer: Hasbro
Origin Series: Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Scale: Non-Scale
Height: Approximately 17cm tall
Original Price: 23 USD

Figure Box:

Megatron's box is the very same one with other Voyagers like Shockwave. Of course, only difference would be the art which features the character's vehicle mode and also the "Try Me!" hole in there which lets you test out the MechTech. For the rest, you can just read em over at Shockwave's review.

Figure Details:

Megatron's vehicle mode in the 3rd movie is now an earth mode after getting hit hard by Prime in the end of RotF; Megatron now transforms into a Mack M915 Line-Haul Truck, another licensed vehicle like most movie vehicles. It's a very solid vehicle mode overall and it's really long since the tanker trailer is included in here. While there are bits of unpainted plastic, it blends very nicely with Megs' color scheme making it look really good. While I don't have much knowledge on vehicles and whatnot, I guess it's pretty awkward to look at the windshield since it's uneven. But since I don't know much, I can't give it a minus point as well even if it looks completely weird. Some rubbery cloth also is placed at the back half of the tanker trailer and as it looks nice, there are strap details there and they're unpainted which looks off really making one minor bad point on Megs overall. Though one thing I liked on the supposed silver parts is that they have rust effects on them which is a very very nice touch seeing as how rugged his alt mode looked like back in DotM movie.

The cloth doesn't really lock in place, you just actually place it there and leave it there and removing it does reveal even more tanker detail goodness though again it's a little unpainted but still looks pretty decent overall. What I don't really get on the tanker is why it has a wheel on each side XD

Megatron's great truck mode comes at the cost making his robot a little less movie cgi accurate, since he looks totally slimmer on how he appeared in the cgi, but not that I'm complaining since I really dig the slimmer look than a fat Megs, it just gives a better effect for me and it's totally wicked. Keeping the damage he took from Optimus back in RotF, Megs' right side of the face is completely in ruins but still manages to give off that menacing look worthy to be called a Decepticon leader. I guess the only real thing that makes him look inaccurate is that his body is slim but the leg is good enough as well as his arms but one thing he does obviously lack would be chains all over his body.

Of course, as originally intended, you can definitely use the cowl on him as how he wears it in the movie, wearing it does however give a slight negative effect on his left arm in terms of articulation but it covers up his ruined face and really serves its purpose quite nicely.

While his blaster mechtech that turns into a Fusion Cannon (too bad he didn't have his Fusion Shotgun) originally attaches on his right arm, you also have a nice port on the left arm, as well as the back and the lower part of the legs. And near his hips, there are also c-joint clip bars there. So all in all, Megs have decent armament ports :3

Lastly like the osom deluxe version of his fated rival, Megs also has intense lightpiping and it looks totally awesome! Definitely one of the best looking lightpipes in my book.

Articulation:

Megs has a ball joint on his neck and it's completely flexible to the point that making him look upward makes it look awkward already but still, a very decent neck joint which is probably perfect already right now. XD

His shoulders have a hinge that allows you to raise his arms sidewards while it also has a complete 360 rotation swivel in the same point; Megs also possess a bicep swivel but it doesn't really rotate 360 but moves 90 both forward and backward. Lastly his arms have two separate hinges and it somehow acts as a double jointed elbow but it really isn't.

Megatron also possesses a mid torso swivel which really helps in posing him dynamically but again it isn't a full on rotating swivel.

Lastly the legs have a hinge on the hips which allows sideways split, a swivel also in the hips which allows forwards and backward adjustment but the forward move is a little more limited while the backward movement is a complete 90 bend. He does have a thigh swivel and a single jointed knee but a big sad part for me is that he doesn't have any ankle joint which makes his balancing act quite difficult.

Megs have really good articulation overall and even placing the cowl would make a minor arm limit but you can still extend it good enough to make his left arm reach his head as if he's adjusting his cowl which is really neat. The MechTech also works like a charm and I totally love the Fusion Cannon it turns to, Megs can do all sorts of pointing his cannon in all places and he can actually hold his cowl if you're patient enough as seen in the main pic which again is totally cool! I really love this Megs overall in terms of play XD

Final Thoughts:

I frankly love the DotM Voyagers a lot (except the original Optimus and Sentinel, Fireburst Prime was osom) and seriously, despite being small as a DotM toy, Megs is quite on the top tier for the DotM Voyagers out right now. The cowl was a really cool addition and overall a really good TF figure; a definite must get from the DotM toyline!
