Review: [FREEing] Nendoroid 168a Airi

Figure Information
Manufacturer: FREEing
Origin Series: Queen's Blade
Scale: Non-Scale
Height: Approximately 10cm tall
Original Price: 3,500 yen

Figure Box:

Box is plain, very plain in all senses, it actually has a design somewhere there but it's not very visible and will look plain black from zoomed out pictures such as the ones I show to my readers. But yeah those have some decorations which I don't know what to call so up to you to inform this poorly knowledge equipped reviewer of what to call it XD Anyway, generally, it's a black box with highlights patterned after Airi's hair color and anyway, if you've noticed she's no.168a, a meaning it's 1P color since all QB Nendos have their respective most of the time not so loved 2P color.

Figure Detail:

One thing that really shines in Airi-chan's nendo is her paint, I just love the apps especially on her hair as they are so vibrant so, photo friendly. The overall general paint is also notable as it's pretty similar to how her higher detailed figures were made (like MegaHouse's) it's pretty complete in details and her frills are as detailed as they can get being a small rendition of Airi. Overall a nice work by FREEing if I must say.

Accessories:

Accessory wise Airi's quite complete, she comes with her evil spirit wisps and her handy dandy scythe of osomness. And, of course, the nendo base but since this is FREEing's work, the base is different this time as it's another clip like old nendos BUT this clips onto a leg and is actually for me, the most solid nendo base I've ever seen so far since it clips on pretty tightly and it doesn't fall off easily compared to initial peg-in-the-back types. Though a problem for others is that the it doesn't completely allow the leg to reach ground level but still, this works wonders for Airi since Airi is mostly seen flying around instead of walking on ground.

For her replacement parts, she's got identical bent legs for each side while she does have unique bent arms for each side (meaning the bent left arm is not a flipped bent arm for her right); even with just these Airi's capable of putting them to good use though her main downside is that she only has one extra faceplate and it's a serious one too; people may probably be disappointed at this since all QB nendos have this problem; the 2P Airi though has that dress-torn face with it as well as another body. (But I don't like the 2P color! D:<) So there, it would've been fun if they included a cute face with her. XD

Articulation:

Articulation remain the same, she's got nendo joints on her neck, legs and additionally for her twintails; a swivel on her waist, shoulders and wrists. It's typical nendoroid articulation but Airi's got a card up her sleeve.

While only having 1 "cute" faceplate, Airi does quite pull off some calm scenes on her own (and even the VN02 pose as well!) Add up her wisps for command type actions and what not. The most amazing thing for Airi is how dynamic she could given her frame is not that of the super poseable nendo frame, thanks to the twintail joints, bent legs and arms, scythe and the ever powerful base, Airi is one of the most dynamic nendos in my book, a really amazing feature for something so limited in articulation.

Of course, if you feel the faceplates lack, you can always snap on some other nendo cute/wacky faces on her if you wish to do so; though it's good to note that not all faceplates would fit on Airi but you can always improvise :3) Such as the shot below where the Faceplate does not really fit but still managed to work XD and it's a faceplate from another ghost girl, Yuyuko (to be reviewed soon too!)

Final Thoughts:

Initially I just bought nendo Airi just because she's Airi, but after playing around with this nendo, she's definitely more than just a nendo that lacks faces, the dynamism of her play value had definitely caught me by surprise and it really gave her a big plus; so, if you plan on getting QB nendos, I'd recommend Airi XD She's really good if you're after play value XD

July Hauls: Articulated Invasion

A bunch of Hauls from Yesterday

Kind of a lot of unexpected goods too!

Anyway, my real hauls would be only SHF Cure Sunshine and Nendoroid Airi since well, that SIC 58 there is just the half, I agreed to with a friend to get the half since I don't like Heat Metal and I don't really plan on displaying half changes as well, and basically LunaTrigger is my favorite among the first 3 full changes but I still haven't payed for it yet so yeah, I only got to take it home early XD. As for the other stuff in there, I attended the 10th anniversary party of Great Toys Online. And thanks to some fun games and the raffle, I have some extra stuff and especially an unexpected haul was with me which I won from the raffle, surely, prizes and gifts are a keeper for me, so what do I do with this thing? you'll find out soon XD

Lastly, I also got some freebie posters from the party and luckily one of the 2 I got was Kamen Riders Ichigo and Nigo (F YEAH!)

Good Smile Company's Upcoming Nendoroid Alleyne

Well, more QB characters for us~

And this time, it's that beautiful elf, Alleyne.

Like many other QB characters, she only comes with arm/ leg options and one extra angry face. And as an extra weapon for Alleyne she also has that throwable rope with rocks attached, dunno what they're called, just the type which eventually spins around locking one's legs when thrown correctly XD

Alleyne is scheduled for an August release for 3500 yen. Images and information comes from her information page.

FREEing's Upcoming Nendoroid Airi

Woooot, Airi-sama~~~

And so, we got the latest from FREEing's QB Nendos :p

Just a short feedback here; like all the QB nendos, she, of course, lacks additional facial expressions coming with only a default expressionless face and an "angry" face, but hey, the seller here would be the character anyway, and if you do have a lot of nendos, facial expressions wouldn't be a problem, right? Anyway, Airi comes with her Scythe and her two wraiths.

Airi's set for a June release for 3500 yen. Still thinking if I should order her already or just grab her once she arrives but anyway, images and info are from GSC's page.

May Hauls: Final

Part of the things that arrived while I was away 2 weeks ago

Well, I still have some things I need to get but first arrive, first get, so...

These two are most likely my last hauls for this month since payday's on Monday and I'll be able to pickup some of the remaining ones next weekend. Anyway, the 1st image is the Blue Miku, originally a GK showcased in some event but Sega mass-produced it anyway, this is by far, the biggest Miku ever made so far. Anyway, since it's Sega, hope the it won't be as bad as I think it is since a number of reviews didn't give me a good impression on it but it's still Miku, so, I had to get her anyway. I got her with help again from fellow member in Otakai.

Next on the list is my 3rd Airi, and one of the better looking Airis out there, the box is very small and portable that the people in wasabi thought it was a figma and told me I had a figma with them (which shocked me btw) Anyway, I still haven't taken pictures of these two since there's still quite a number of piled up pending shots from the HK hauls so... maybe by next week or next next week, I can shoot photos for these two already. XD

Anyway, that's that and June's coming which stores my most anticipated Miku yet as well as Riders from the S.I.C. line. :3

May Hauls: The Dark Knight and The Queen

Got these two over the weekend

Well, as usual, weekends were out-of-the-house days...

Last Saturday, the initial plan was to go to GH and so I did but was there for just a short while since I went to MoA to give moral support and be a spectator to a certain person on quest of rabu~ Anyway, my short trip to GH got me go around Shoppesville plus trying to look for that exclusive 6 inch movie series figure of War Machine by Hasbro for the Iron Man 2 movie toy line. But found nothing in the area and at the last stop, I saw the Batman above being sold at a really really cheap price. I inspected it first and it was still pretty good, so, I took it and later on see the War Machine but friggin' expensive though...

Anyway, I'm not shifting or adding new lines again. Some western characters just do get in my collection if I find them worth getting like the Prime and Darth Vader I have, that Batman was no exception since it was really well made and pretty much a static figure and the best of all, he was made by a japanese manufacturer which resulted in such a fine finish.

Moving on...

Aldra was got through a forum member's help from HLJ since she was on an effin sale of 1800 yen, loool! Really cheap and I really wanted an Aldra but the only thing hindering me was her "secret cleaver" but any way, the price was too good to pass up while it was still on stock, so, I got her and it arrived in just a week's time since it was shipped. ~woot~ Anyway, that's all for now... Elections should be happening around here in a few hours from now.

2009 Top 10 Hauls

Here's Miku to present to you...
My Top 10 Hauls of 2009

Basically, this is a list of what I consider as the most worth it buys I made throughout the previous year. Of course, this means that the fig need not be released in 2009 only, this includes even figs that were released in the years before 2009. So anyway, here they are! ^_^

At number 10 is the 5th main Kamen Rider in the Heisei era, in his S.I.C. glory, of course. Though I didn't like Blade that much, his S.I.C. is a major win, his details are really superb and he really has the "Imaginative" feel that S.I.C. was supposedly giving originally. I got him for a really good price too from a fellow collector, no broken parts, no missing parts whatever. ^^

[Bandai] S.I.C. Volume 35: Kamen Rider Blade

At the 9th spot is a part of the Nanoha StrikerS line from Alter, probably what got me to watch the series is this character, her fig was really great, a decent pose, a lovely face and a really sweet cast-off feature. The character that has the wits and wields the device known as Cross Mirage. Of course, none other than Stars Team's Teana Lanster.

[Alter] 1/7 Teana Lanster

At the 8th spot is the 6th Kamen Rider of all time, again in his S.I.C. glory. Amazon is one of the riders who was really fit to be in the S.I.C. world. Though, really lacking in articulation, the design of Amazon is really nice, I like it very much and his S.I.C.-fied Jungler is the still the best S.I.C. motorbike I have seen so far.

[Bandai] S.I.C. Volume 21: Kamen Rider Amazon and Junger

Nendoroids are really cute and all but Petits are way cuter for me, and they act like gashapons/trading figs but with a little better quality I guess. And supposedly when the Vocaloid 01 set came out, I was planning to keep only the Mikus but due to the rest's really charming side, looks like I kept them after all XD Lots of really adorable puchis here like Sakine Meiko, Akita Neru, Megurine Luka and Hachune Miku. XD And they win the 7th spot in my Top 10 Hauls of 2009.

[Good Smile Company] Nendoroid Petit: Vocaloid 01

A slightly unexpected Kamen Rider makes it to number 6, Heisei era's 9th Rider... Kiva! Well, frankly, I really criticized his S.I.C. rendition before as ugly since his eyes were made in a really weird way that it looked unattractive. Everything changed when I got him, he's the most poseable S.I.C. so far in my collection and really heavily armed with a lot of die cast as compensation for having the basic form only. The Bloody Rose was also a good addition for his S.I.C. pack. :D

[Bandai] S.I.C. Volume 50: Kamen Rider Kiva

Now that we're in top 5... The combat Instructor makes it at 5th. The really beautiful elf from Queen's Blade in her MegaHouse rendition is really worth it, with a bit of caution when you cast-off her dress though, you'll be forced to do so to remove the plastics btw. I tried multiple times to convince the local store to release the ones reserved for more than a month already just to get this but it didn't really work, good thing they a restock not long after. This beauty has a lot of cast-off options aside from her full cast-off, you can opt to just remove her muffler or her hat to get a variety. :D

[MegaHouse] Queen's Blade: Alleyne

From this point on would be a barrage of my waifus XD At the 4th place is the one responsible for laying my eyes on the Queen's Blade world. I really just bought her because I find her really beautiful, who knew that this certain fig would make me semi-obsessed with the Infernal Temptress. Though pose-wise, she's pretty boring but face-wise, she possesses a true wonder that no other Airi, so far, can match. And if it's me, I'd go after the face first before the pose since close-up shots are my favorite during photo shoots.

[MegaHouse] Queen's Blade Special Edition: Airi

The 3rd most worthy buy of 2009 is my favorite yandere-ish character from Haruhi series. I was supposedly thinking of buying her in ebay but luck shined on me when a sale was on at Riuva and I won Ryoko for a really good price. :D This Max Factory rendition is IMO the 2nd best Ryoko fig manufactured so far, the details stand out and you can always that a shot of her having that Yandere aura if you think she's one.

[Max Factory] 1/8 Asakura Ryoko

Coming in top 2 is my 2nd Miku in the list. The supposedly "I gave on her" fig that suddenly got a restock where I hesitated big time whether I should reserve her or not since that will decide my Miku shrine idea to push through or not. Eventually, I gambled if I can get the money for her in a short timespan but I was successful and thus, began my Miku army expansion. ^_^ This is still by far the best large fig Miku for me due to her possessing the moe attribute and also not being boring as most Mikus only copies her original artwork pose.

[Good Smile Company] 1/8 Hatsune Miku

And now... the best haul I got last year... Another Miku but this time is her Wonder Festival exclusive figma, probably the best articulated Miku so far. A repainted figma Miku with all her previous accessories (2 leeks and a mike with a stand) and a new vocaloid keyboard and an included di: stage with papercrafts to decorate it with a studio set for Miku. The set also comes with a papercraft wing and a new face which has her eyes closed replacing the, IMO, boring face of the original figma release. This pack is pretty worth it and I got for a good price floating at ebay as well. Now, she's my favorite fig in my collection.

[Max Factory] Figma EX003: Hatsune Miku (live stage version)

Now that it's done. What's yours? :D
