Hauls: A Month and a Half's Pile Up

 July Hauls

 1st Half of August Hauls

Well, here's a major lootfest, since I wasn't able to post them for a while due to business (with work, Team Onii-chan activities, Dragon Nest and dear homerunchan).

But anyway, a breakdown of the loots (do not that there is 1 figure set that I wasn't able to take a picture of XD):
- Black Rock Shooter Limited Edition DVD Box
- Banpresto Bakemonogatari DX Figure Sengoku Nadeko
- Takara Tomy Transformers Animated TA-05 Prowl
- Figma 132 Irisviel Von Einzbern
- D-Arts Vava
- Nendoroid 220 Megurine Luka Cheerful version
- Takara Tomy Transformers Prime AM-12 War Breakdown
- GSC 1/8 Miki Sayaka
- Ques Q 1/8 Yakumo Yukari
- Hasbro Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons Brimstone
- Takara Tomy Transformers United Black Optimus Prime
- Sega Prize Figure Fairy of the Music Hatsune Miku
- Megahouse Excellent Model Series Saya and Haji
- S.H.Figuarts Cure Lemonade
- S.H.Figuarts Cure Berry
- S.H.Figuarts Cure Passion
- Kotobukiya ARTFX J Hiei
- Takara Tomy Transfomers Prime AM-15 Vehicon
- Hasbro Kre-O Transformers Decepticon Ambush (not in the pictures above)

So yeah, one of these miraculously got a rather "quick" turnaround time for me to review and it's none other than the BRS DVD Box which contains figma Insane Black Rock Shooter; I also happen to have lent IBRS along with Yukari and Sayaka during our recently concluded display at Otaku Expo Reload, coverage of which you can view at my facebook fanpage or at Team Onii-chan's fanpage.

The list of hauls also makes me taking on new Transformers lines such as the Animated line with Prowl being my first from the line, also opening me in stepping into the what I dread/spite, the Arms Micron line with Breakdown (since he's a Takara exclusive) and Vehicon (for army building purposes). Also, I've managed to snag a Kre-O set and finally got an answer to my biggest Kreon question: "Can Kreons clip to a regular Transformer's clip on ports?" and the answer is a big YES, really tight fit too!

The others are a bunch of the usual articulated figures and scaled figures I've been hauling and actually Cure Lemonade and AM Vehicon are gifts from my friends. So... yeah, as much as I want to review some of these, my review area is temporarily unavailable due to the fact that it's being used as a box storage right now. My sister promised to help me clean up, so... once that's done, reviews would probably be back to be being more frequent. But anyway, that's it for my hauls. XD

Review: [Banpresto] Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica DX Figure 2: Miki Sayaka

Figure Information
Manufacturer: Banpresto
Origin Series: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Scale: Non-scale
Height: Approximately 16cm tall
Original Price: 1,600 Yen (HLJ based)

Figure Packaging:

While the packaging isn't something worth praising since it has no windows and all and the how the figure itself looks like is just cut and pasted there in front; the background is certainly notable especially for the silhouettes of the Magical Girls below and if you happen to flip it to the backside, the witches also have their silhouettes there. So, it is pretty fun background wise.

The figure itself is just stored around 1/2 or 1/3 the box height since you'll need to "assemble" Sayaka first to display her.

Figure Details:

While Prize figures are not that notable for details since they pretty much lack it most of the time; I must say that Banpresto did quite a neat work on trying to improve the quality of prize figure details; while everything else is painted at an average satisfactory level, there enough frilly parts going on; and I love how the blue in her chest area turns out to be glossy as it should be XD The choices of blue are are pretty much spot on for Miki and the gold trims really do stand out.

While being worth on the paint apps, I must comment on her skirt; it really is well done and it gives a great texture look with it; they also did not fail to include the crescent on her belly; though it could have used a better color since the shade of blue used feels kind of odd.

Lastly, the base! I'm impressed with it actually, aside from slipping away from the usual plain and boring thin round bases, this actually has that sort of elevation included. And to outrun the incoming dullness of a semi altered round base; they actually made some details and with the character's Soul Gem in the center along with the character's name. I do think it would be better off without the name though but yeah, personal preferences. XD

Appeal:

Banpresto did a wonderful job on capturing Sayaka's energetic side and the face though not a 100% accurate does give Sayaka justice for being her first bigger scaled figure. While the pose is somewhat dull, it does give Sayaka a cute feel around her; making the pose a somewhat part of the figure's pros as this certainly compliment her face. Alternatively, covering her face also gives the twisted Sayaka feel in some cases and that is definitely cool.

I guess even if the pose was a con; I can't really complain about it since prize figures do get as dull as they can most of the time; and Sayaka certainly is above the totally dull posed prize figure.

Final Thoughts:

It is pretty rare that I take a liking to prize figures and I must say Bapresto's Sayaka is a pretty figure; definitely worth the price tag for a fine made prize figure. The pose might be dull to me and some others but that doesn't entirely kill the potential of this figure. And collecting her with the other 4 would definitely be neat to look at. Sayaka fans, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up, it's just a waste passing up on such a cheap wonder.

I'd rate this figure a 4 out of 5

First Wave of 2012 Hauls

More articulateds... More figures on the backlog

But eeee, I will get there eventually XD

These were my hauls back in the weekends, while Miku arrived already late last month, it was only last weekend that I was able to pick her up along with Dark Precure. While all of my articulated hauls have no double hands and whatnot problem, the sad and slightly annoying part is that my Dark Precure, which is also a Tamashii Web exclusive, got hit with some serious QC paint issues, having quite a ridiculous amount of out of place silver on her hair which homerunchan noticed while I was checking the joints. XD

Anyway, the last of my hauls is actually an impulse buy in the form of Banpresto's prize figure of Miki Sayaka. While the initial impressions had that derpy look, banpresto managed to pull it off by improving on it for the final product which looked nice after seeing some pics and thus, lead to getting it.

Review: [Banpresto] Ichiban Kuji Kyun Chara World Prize D Miki Sayaka

Figure Information
Manufacturer: Banpresto
Origin Series: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Scale: Non-scale
Height: Approximately 10cm tall
Original Price: 600 Yen

Figure Package:

Unlike the most kyun charas from the ichiban kuji loterry prizes, Sayaka actually comes with her own clamshell packaging. It's pretty plain actually, like some US action figure and the card box is actually pretty handy since you can just slide the cardboard behind and then slide it back in case you want to return Sayaka back to her plastic cage. It's pretty small and is just enough for her size but aside from that, nothing more to say XD

Figure Details:

While the figure is meant as some sort of trading figure, the quality of the plastic ain't no cheap for sure, just the absence of shiny plastic for the skin color is a major plus already as that is certainly something I don't like on trading figures and some prize figures. For a 10cm figure, I am amazed at the amount of detail they made on Sayaka's mahou shoujo clothes as they did not even miss the moon just above her skirt; even her sword has a good amount of detail in it. Probably the only thing I didn't like about this Sayaka is her hair color, it just feels too light of a blue for Sayaka-chan. XD

Finally her base is pretty cute IMO, a bunch of hearts and crescent moons there which really fits Sayaka as she's the only one who had a love interest (and a male too) of the 5 Mahou Shoujos from the series XD

Additionally, here's a tough size comparison to a nendo to those curious. XD

Appeal:

While small figures like this are made to be static, of course, they have their own appeal. As you have seen above, her head actually has a clamp to support it to prevent any leaning problems. XD But if you so desire to make Sayaka-chan a little more photogenic, then you can opt to remove it and make use of her neck swivel.

While some might say she looks far off from Sayaka as we know her, I love the expression, very confident and very very much Sayaka in character. This particular figure has its own charms for sure and allowing the use of the swivel is pretty neat.

Final Thoughts:

While the detail and expression is fine enough, I just can't help but notice that Sayaka always need to spread her arms and actually find it funny XD But yeah, assuming you got her on lottery, then lucky you but if like me who got it for 1200 yen, then I guess she's pretty expensive for her worth and really it's something I can only recommend getting to Sayaka fags but really not for regular Sayaka fans as you might just be disappointed on her when you get her.
